The game began with good pressure from Marquette in the attacking zone, as several scoring opportunities went just wide in the first minute of the period. Escanaba had a chance or two of their own early on, but Redmen goalie Brennan Hakkola stood tall in the net too keep the Eskymos off the scoreboard. Not to be outdone, Escanaba netminder Dylan Ziemke withstood a flurry of Marquette shots, keeping the scores level at zero apiece. It was Marquette that finally broke the deadlock when Jackson Potulny got a pass from Brock Taylor and put it past Ziemke to give the Redmen a 1-0 lead. Marquette doubled their lead to 2-0 just minutes later when Jack Sides poked the puck into the Escanaba net, and that’s the lead they took into the locker room after the first period.

After First Period: Marquette 2, Escanaba 0
Escanaba’s Nick Kolich wasted no time in cutting Marquette’s lead to 2-1 when he scored just minutes into the second period. Marquette responded well, with quality scoring chances from Potulny and Sides both being saved by Ziemke . The Redmen continued to create chances near the Escanaba net, but it was Dylan Ziemke that was equal to the task every time. Escanaba then took a penalty, and Marquette capitalized seven seconds into the ensuing powerplay when Joe DeMattia scored and increased the lead to 3-1. Potulny added his second of the game shortly thereafter, and Dylan Baldwin scored with two minutes to go in the period to put the Redmen up 5-1, and that was how the second frame ended.
After Second Period: Marquette 5, Escanaba 1

The Marquette Redmen came out hot in the third period, with much of the first few minutes spent in the Escanaba zone. The Eskymos did have a few scoring chances, but they seemed to have lost their drive, and as a result Marquette was able to keep up the pressure on Escanaba. Dylan Baldwin scored a powerplay goal for Marquette with just over six minutes to go in the game to put Marquette up 6-1, and that lead would see the Redmen through the rest of the game.
Final Score: Marquette 6, Escanaba 1
