The shots were in favor of the Copper Kings, but that didn’t slow the Redmens hustle. After about 13 minutes into the game, Marquette’s Ryan Baldwin scored a goal after an attractive pass from Kobie Guidebeck. It was around this point when Marquette took over the game, even though the shots remained 14-3 in favor of Calumet. The rest of the quarter remained scoreless, with Marquette taking the 1-0 lead into the second.

The Copper Kings won the face-off to kick off the second quarter. The Redmen came out strong, really bringing the game to Calumet. However, with about 6:40 left to go in the second, Calumet’s Nick Djerf went on to score an unassisted goal. Thirty seconds later Calumet’s Rylan Anderson snuck the puck past Marquette’s goalie. This thirty seconds of play really turned the game around, with the Copper Kings dominating the rest of the period. The Redmen won the face-off to start the last period of the game. Marquette continued to break the red line, but struggled to get the puck deep in the offensive zone. With around 9:30 to go, Marquette’s Ansel Frost tied the game 2-2 off of a rebound from defensemen Jakob Peterson. Not long after, Calumet’s Brent Loukus went on to score the last goal of the game, giving the Copper Kings the 3-2 victory over the Redmen.
