Marquette Redmen and Bay Reps Tie First of Two Games This Weekend on 103.3 WFXD!

Marquette, MI December 09, 2022 – The Marquette Redmen (5-2-0) were back on the ice on Friday night hosting Bay Reps (4-0-1) in a pair of weekend games. The game was broadcast live from Lakeview Arena with John Thomsen and Joe Gaffney on the call. The action was live on 103.3 WFXD and online at WFXD.com!

1st: The Redmen won the opening face off with Jake Garrow, and brought the puck down into the Reps’ zone. The Reps pressed the Marquette zone with a shot on net, but the save was made by Parker Nevenhoven. Marquette was the first team to find the penalty box and gave Bay Reps a power play opportunity. The Redmen penalty kill did a good job of keeping things out of their zone as they came back to full strength.

The two teams went back and forth with no real offense or shot attempts. Marquette attempted to slow things down a bit, and pick away at the Reps defense to find their shot. The Redmen played physical to cause turnovers and give them shot opportunities. Action picked up mid way through the period with Bay Reps getting a 3-on-1 but broken up by Colin Nemacheck.

The Redmen would go to the other end and get a great shot off by Tucker Welch, but the big save was made by Aiden Reamer of the Reps. Marquette would find the net a couple of possessions later. Adam Heikkila’s shot made it past Reamer for his second goal of the year. Bay Reps did get on the board with just :15 to go in the period when Ethan Coleman was able to sneak one past Nevenhoven for a power play goal.

2nd: Garrow once again started the period by winning a face off for the Redmen. Bay Reps would however intercept a pass and bring it to the other end. Parker Nevenhoven made a great save to keep things tied up in the opening minutes. Marquette would pay it back by putting shots on net, but none making it past Reamer.

The Redmen found themselves with a man advantage, but the Reps penalty kill played aggressive to keep the puck out of their zone. Marquette wouldn’t waste the power play and would find shot opportunities. Bay Reps would make it back to full strength, but not for long as a tripping penalty gave the Redmen another power play.

The two teams would continue to go back and forth with solid shots at net. Both teams played great defensively to help their goalies. Marquette found themselves short handed, but their penalty kill kept the puck away from Nevenhoven. Marquette’s play got a little sloppy, but were able to hold on and keep things even going into the final period.

3rd: Only a minute into the period the Marquette Redmen found themselves short handed. Their penalty kill did a great job to clear the puck and keep it out of their zone. Tucker Welch would get a great breakaway shot, but Reamer would get his body on it and keep it out of the net.

The two teams continued to battle up and down the ice as the period ticked away. Marquette continued to lay shots on net and Reamer continued to make incredible saves. Nevenhoven also did his part keeping out the Bay Reps shots on goal.  Neither team was able to finish the other off and the game went into overtime.

OT: Bay Reps won the face off and pushed the puck into the Marquette zone to start the extra minutes. The Redmen were able to get a shot off that was covered up leading to an offensive zone face off. The Reps were able to scoop up a loose puck to move things into the Redmen zone. They kept going back and forth with promising shot attempts but, the goaltending was exceptional from each team. Although there were plenty of opportunities no team would score in the final seconds.

FINAL: Marquette 1 (42 SOG) – Bay Reps 1 (28 SOG)

The Marquette Redmen (5-2-1) and Bay Reps (4-0-2) will meet again in just 24 hours at Lakeview Arena. The Saturday match up will have a 1pm face off with John Thomsen and Joe Gaffney on the call on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 – 99.9!
