Trenton, MI – February 13, 2024 – In a bid to rebound from two recent losses, the Marquette Highschool Hockey team traveled downstate to Trenton, Michigan, for a face-off against the Trenton Trojans in the Michigan High School Hockey League Tournament. First Period: Both teams kick off the game cautiously, testing the waters and making shots to find opportunities. With three minutes left in the first period and the score tied at 0-0, Marquette seizes an opportunity in the Trojan zone. Kyle Maurer takes a shot, going top shelf on the Trojans’ goal and scoring, giving Marquette High School Hockey the lead.

Second Period: The energy ramps up in the second period, with Cole Kelly, Marquette’s goalie, standing strong against five out of six shots attempted by Trenton. The Trojans struggled to break Marquette’s defenses until, with five minutes left in the quarter, a skillful shot by Trenton slid just under Cole Kelly, tying the score at 1-1. However, Marquette quickly regains the lead with another goal.

Third Period: Tension reaches an all-time high in the third period, with both teams tied in shots made and struggling to break down each other’s defenses. With more than halfway through the period and no goals, Gabriel of the Trenton Trojans finds an opportunity and ties the game 2-2. The last four minutes of the period are eventful, with shots made and saved, but no team secures the winning goal. The period ends in a tie, leading to a shootout.
