Brighton, MI – January 24, 2025 – Wrapping up a tough three-game road trip, the Marquette High School Hockey Sentinels took on the Brighton Bulldogs at the KVIH Brighton Ice Rink. Determined to shake off last night’s loss to Hartland, the Sentinels hit the ice ready to give it their all, and they delivered a performance full of heart and grit. Fans were glued to the action, which aired live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9, with play-by-play from Joe Gaffaney and coach commentary from Coach Larry Carey.
Game Recap
First Period
The game kicked off with both teams feeling each other out, testing defenses, and waiting for a chance to strike. Brighton found the back of the net first, putting Marquette on the defensive. The Sentinels pushed back, with Seth Sandstrom and Brody Lemire making some impressive attempts on goal, but Brighton’s goalie wasn’t giving an inch. The Bulldogs’ aggressive play set the tone for what would be a nail-biter of a game.

Second Period
Marquette came alive in the second period, taking full advantage of a power play. Brody Lemire, assisted by Ian Sheltrow and Carter Beerling, tied it up with a perfectly executed goal that had the bench roaring. Meanwhile, Cole Kelly was a wall in the net, making key saves to keep the Sentinels in the fight. The teams headed into the final period deadlocked at 1-1.

Third Period
Brighton pulled ahead midway through the third, finding a gap in Marquette’s defense to make it 2-1. With just three minutes left, Seth Sandstrom nearly tied it up with a gutsy shot, but Brighton regained control and sealed the deal with a long-range goal into an empty net. Despite their best efforts, the Sentinels couldn’t find another equalizer before the final buzzer.
Final Score: Marquette 1 – 3 Brighton
