Marquette, MI – December 9, 2023 – Today, our beloved Marquette High School Hockey Team is on their home turf in the Lake View Arena, facing off once again against the Sault Saint Marie Blue Devils. After securing a tight victory last night with a score of 2-1, Marquette is on the edge of their seats to see how this game will unfold. Joe Gaffney and Coach Larry brought the action to life on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9, delivering live updates straight from the stadium.
Period 1:
The game kicked off with a Berling play, and CJ Carter provided crucial support for a quick goal, a recurring theme for Marquette this season. Clean transitions were the key to this game, resulting in a 1-0 lead. Cole Kelly showcased his skills, stopping a Sault goal with no rebound. Despite hard pressure from the Sault, they couldn’t break through Cole Kelly and Marquette’s defenses.

Period 2:
CJ Carter played a significant supporting role as Beerman made another shot, but the Sault’s goalie saved it. Marquette faced challenges getting through Sault’s defense, but Berling scored, supported by Carter, burying it beautifully and bringing the score to 2-0. CJ Carter added another goal, supported by Berling, making it 3-0. Marquette demonstrated intelligence on power plays.
Marquette 3 – 0 Sault Saint Marie
Period 3:
A top-shelf shot made up for a missed opportunity from the last period, the Blue Devils get themselves on the score board bringing the score 3-1. The Blue Devils, with a power-play goal, find and open opportunity and bring the score to 3-2 just 10 seconds later. The question arose: would Marquette narrowly win by one goal again? The quick answer came when Marquette made a line goal, with Sheldon from Sandstrom to Pond, bringing the score to 4-2. Marquette fiercely defended their net for the rest of the game, securing a 2-goal victory.
