Marquette Redmen Weather Loss to Traverse City Central Trojans 35-7

The Redmen take on the Trojans in Traverse City.

Marquette, MIAugust 30, 2018 –  Football season continued as the Marquette Redmen took on the Traverse City Central Trojans on a beautiful late August evening. Marquette cashed in on a fumble and achieved first down at their own 3 yard line to start but after a strong first drive Marquette couldn’t make it to the end-zone. On their second drive, however, the Trojans managed to snag that first touchdown and extra point to bring the score to 7-0. On Marquette’s second possession the Redmen experienced a setback after a holding penalty. Brendan Kaski recovered with a couple of beautiful pass plays but no change to the scoreboard as they headed into the second quarter.

The Redmen looked to get something going with a strong drive but ultimately gave up possession to T.C. Central early in the second quarter. The Trojans got their second touchdown of the evening with a 36 yard pass from Tobin Schwannecke to Trey Searles, who took care of the rest, bringing the score up to 13-0.  On their next possession Marquette got all the way up to the line of scrimmage with a couple of tense tries but came up just short. The Redmen looked to stop the Trojans from putting anything else up on the scoreboard heading into the half. Taking over possession within the last minute of the quarter, Marquette kept the Trojans at bay but the score remained 13-0, Trojans over the Redmen, at the end of the second quarter.

The Trojans took possession early in the second half to keep the momentum in their favor. Tobin Schwannecke cruised into the end-zone on a 46 yard touchdown run to bring the score up to 19-0. A successful two-point conversion widened the Trojan lead further to 21-0 in the third quarter.

Marquette searched for a foothold in the fourth quarter and found their first touchdown of the game. Adam Jenshak received a great pass from Kaski to bring the score to 21-7 with the extra point. T.C. Central turned around and Schwannecke answered with a touchdown of their own from the 37 to protect their three-touchdown lead, 28-7. The Trojans didn’t give the Redmen much room to breathe with a touchdown received by Tylor McCoon on their next possession for a score of 35-7. With 1.33 to go Marquette’s Tanner Judd intercepted to gain possession of the ball for one last drive but at the close the scoreboard hadn’t budged.

The Marquette Redmen will face-off against Sault Ste. Marie at home next week on Friday, September 7. Pregame starts at 6:30 PM and kick-off is at 7:00 PM. Catch all the action on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.
