Marquette Redmen Hockey Falls 5-2 to Hancock Bulldogs

The Marquette Redmen getting ready for the game

Hancock, MIFebruary 13, 2018 – The Marquette Redmen hockey team fell to the Hancock Bulldogs 5-2 on Tuesday evening, in a game that was broadcast live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 and online at foxsportsmarquette.com.  The Redmen, who played to a hard-fought 0-0 tie in their last game, dropped their matchup against the Bulldogs.

The Hancock Bulldogs didn’t wait long to get things going offensively, scoring just 1:26 into the game.  Hancock doubled up their lead just over a minute later when Austin Salani took advantage of a Marquette turnover.  The Redmen got their defense to step up after this, and they were able to ride out the rest of the period without conceding again.  After one period of play, the Hancock Bulldogs held a 2-0 lead.

Hancock began the second period with the same offensive fervor as the first, and scored just 42 seconds after the resumption of play to make the score 3-0.  Marquette got their first goal of the game at the 6:10 mark courtesy of a Thomas Dunleavy powerplay goal, bringing Hancock’s lead to 3-1.  The rest of the period passed without any further goal scoring, and after two, Hancock led 3-1.

Marquette cut the Hancock lead to 3-2 at the 6:26 mark of the third period when Sean O’Connor buried a rebound and brought the Redmen within one goal.  The Bulldogs regained a two-goal lead at the 10:02 mark when they forced a turnover in the Marquette zone, and they got another just under a minute later.  The rest of the game went without a goal, and the final score was 5-2 in favor of Hancock.

The Marquette Redmen will next take the ice on Thursday, February 15, when they are back at home against the Houghton Gremlins.  The puck will drop on that game at 7:00 P.M., and you can catch all the action on 103 FXD and online at wfxd.com.
