Marquette Redmen Can’t Get Offensive Going In Loss To Escanaba 18-0

Marquette, MI May 25, 2021 – The Marquette Redmen varsity baseball team played the visiting Escanaba Eskymos on Tuesday evening. The game was broadcast live and online by Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9!

The Eskymos had their bats ready to begin the game. Collin Arnt was able to get on base and advance Trent Lawson from first to third. Lawson would be hit home by Riley Lamb off the fielder’s choice. The Eskymos ended their half of the inning up 1-0.

Marquette wouldn’t be able to get any offense going whatsoever. Escanaba had all the momentum and kept it rolling throughout the entirity of the game. In the top half of the second the Eskymos were able to plate four extra runs with RBI’s from Trent Lawson, Tyler Lawson, Collin Arnt, and Bryant Maki all one after the other.

Escanaba would plate another off an E2 with Nick Kolich stealing second, but the ball got past the fielder to bring Kolich all the way around to home. Arnt would bring home Brett Schlenvogt and Ty. Lawson to bring the Eskymo lead to, 8-0 in the middle of the third.

The top half of the fifth saw the game get blown open by Escanaba. With multiple substitutions by Escanaba they were able to rack up the runs against the new pitcher Nash Riipi of the Redmen. Adam Willette and Casey Bray were able to record a RBI each off walks. Jarret Olsen got himself a 2 RBI single to bring the score to 12-0 in favor of the Eskymos. After the top half was all said and done the Eskymos had a commanding, 18-0 lead.

Marquette had to plate nine runs in the bottom half of the fifth in order to keep the game going  and it was a tall task.  The designated hitter, Schlenvogt would be moved to the mound in relief of Hunter Lancour. The new Eskymo pitcher would strike out the side in order to close things out for the win.
