The Bulldogs were off to the races in the opening quarter, but the Redmen were close on their heels. Marius Grazulis of Marquette had the first basket of the season. It was tit for tat for a little while, but the Bulldogs pulled away in the final minutes of the quarter. At the buzzer, Marquette trailed Brighton 17-8.

Not to worry, the Redmen came out strong in the second quarter. Brendan Kaski helped along a 5-0 run for Marquette to close the gap against Brighton. The Bulldogs may have outscored the Redmen in the first quarter, but the Redmen kept their energy up in the second and outscored their opponent 13-4. All that work payed off as the game was all tied up at 21-21 going into half-time.
After a fiery second quarter, the Redmen faded a little at the top of the second half. Brighton was able some distance between themselves and Marquette.
Raffy Millado brought the score to 36-31 in the final seconds of the quarter after a couple of free throws, one in and one out. Brighton answered with a three-pointer just before the buzzer to widen their lead to 39-31.

The Redmen had a little work to do in the final quarter of the game. Again, Marquette came out strong after a little trouble in the previous quarter. First, Marquette’s Bryce Brazeau sunk a few free throws to help bring it to a one-possession game.
Then Ethan Martysz pulled the Redmen ahead of the Bulldogs with his second three-pointer of the night for a score of 47-46.
With less than one minute to go, Brighton pulled ahead again at 48-47. A foul from Brighton on Marius Grazulis gave Marquette a huge chance to surpass Brighton in the final seconds. Grazulis hit his first, but missed his second to tie it up and push the game into overtime.
Marquette surged ahead in overtime to 55-48 over the Bulldogs, their biggest lead of the game. The Redmen were able to protect their lead to pull off a victory over Brighton. The final score was 63-58.
