Marquette Redettes Lose Close Game Against Petsokey In District Semifinals

Petoskey, MI March 24th, 2021 – The Marquette Redettes went up against the Petoskey Northmen in the district semifinal Wednesday evening. Marquette was looking to extend their streak of being the District Champions, but they had a large obstacle in their way in Petoskey.

First Half: Petoskey struck first in the contest draining a three off the jump. Gabriella Guy would put up another two pointer to put the Northmen up 6-0. The Redettes had struggles getting their shots to go, while both teams were struggling to put together offense. Marquette’s Maria Millado would put the Redettes on the board going 1-2 at the free throw line.

The Redettes switched up their defensive look a bit and caused some turnovers. Marquette would capitalize on the turnovers with Kaleah Puskala hitting a three to bring the Redettes within two. Maria Millado would once again score for Marquette and tie up the game 6-6. The first half would remain very much a defensive battle. The two teams would enter the locker room with the game tied up.

Second Half: Petoskey’s Sydney Mann opened things off right away out of the half with a three to put the Northmen up early. Marquette would promptly answer, but the Northmen would score themselves and cause a turnover to bring them up four. Petoskey would continue to pull away until Zoe Smith put up a big time three pointer to bring the Redettes within 5.

Marquette would start the final eight minutes going on a 6-0 run to take the lead back from the Northmen. The game would go back and forth and Petoskey would take back then build on their lead. Marquette would fight back and Maria Millado would bring them within two. Kenzie Bromley would have a huge half for the Northmen and would help her team build on to their lead in the final minutes. Marquette would make a push at the end of the game, but ultimately it was too little too late for the Redettes.

The Redettes will end their six year run of being District Champions. The Marquette Redettes finish their season with a 3-14 record. The future is bright for the Redettes with the majority of their players returning for next season.
