Marquette, MI December 21st, 2017: The Marquette Redettes won a much closer game than the score indicated against the Kingsford Flivvers, their last game before the Christmas holiday. Marquette is off to a hot start this season having won each contest they’ve played in, accumulating a 6-0 record and champions of the Traverse City Invitational Tournament last weekend. The Redettes are lead by the dynamic Hale sisters, Chloe and Claudia as well as the hot shooting Sydney Kivi. You can listen to tonight’s game audio on the Fox Sports Marquette Website.

Marquette started off tonight shooting hot fire from beyond the arc, which helped propel the Redettes to a quick 9-3 lead over the Flivvers. Statistically not much slowed Marquette down during the first half, as they found themselves dominating Kingsford on the glass and on rebounds. The Marquette lead could have been much larger if they were able to manage many of the self-inflicted turnovers. Coach Ben Smith said earlier this week that he believes that if his Redettes can cut down the turnovers they’ve got a chance to beat anybody in the conference. The highlight of the half came in the waning second of the first quarter as Sydney Kivi heaved a last second 3 pointer that beat the buzzer and banked of the backboard, ending a solid shooting quarter for Marquette, who entered halftime with a 31-20 lead.

Those turnovers continued to be a throne in the Redettes heel as they saw their halftime lead slip away midway through the third quarter and into the fourth. Kingsford came flying back into tonight’s game thanks to the hot hand of Renee Roberts. The Flivvers were able to bring this game to within 3 points before Marquette was able to start to rebuild their lead thanks to strong work in the paint. Kingsford wasn’t able to control the Redettes down low which led to multiple fouls in the second half which ultimately made the Flivvers comeback bid fall just short. Sydney Kivi finished the game with 11 points in a game Marquette will look to build off of their mistakes. The Flivvers pitched a strong case against the Redette but ultimately fell short with a final score of 62-50.

The Marquette Redettes are back in action December 28th in a home match against Calumet as they look to protect their home court and perfect record. You can find that game live on air on Fox 105.1 and 99.9 and streaming live on the Fox Sports Marquette website.
