Marquette, MI – January 10, 2025 – The Marquette Highschool Hockey Sentinels kicked off the North/South Showcase with a nail-biting win against the Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central Rangers at Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City. Fans tuned in to Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9, where Joe Gaffaney and Coach Larry Carey delivered all the action live.
First Period:
Marquette wasted no time, with Seth Sandstrom scoring less than a minute into the game to give the Sentinels an early lead. Soon after, Easton Bal tipped in a beautiful top-shelf goal, extending Marquette’s lead. Forest Hills Central, however, responded with two clean goals, evening the score and setting the stage for a tense matchup.

Second Period:
The Sentinels came out strong in the second, with Jack Pond delivering a perfect pass to Caleb Aho, who capitalized on the opportunity to put Marquette back in the lead. Later, Brody Sheldon and Lucas Belkowski set up a masterful play for Seth Sandstrom, adding another goal to Marquette’s tally. With their defense holding firm, Marquette ended the period with a two-goal advantage.

Third Period:
Forest Hills Central came back with a vengeance, scoring three goals in the final period and taking a one-goal lead. With just 43 seconds left on the clock, Marquette’s hopes seemed dim. But Seth Sandstrom reignited the team with a spectacular goal, tying the game. In a stunning final play, Nick Kucharek passed to Sandstrom, who delivered the puck to Easton Bal, sealing an incredible down-to-the-wire victory for Marquette. Fans erupted as the Sentinels secured a miraculous win!
Final Score: Marquette 6 – 5 Forest Hills Central
