Marqette, MI – October 27, 2023 – The Marquette varsity football team hosted their MHSAA District Playoff game at Hart Stadium against conference opponent, Petoskey Northmen. The two played a very close game in their last outing with Marquette edging out a win with a final score of 21-20. Friday’s game had higher stakes with a win or go home implication in the playoff match-up.
A largely defensive battle in the first quarter saw both of the teams being kept out of the end zone. That was until Petoskey reeled in a catch for the first score of the game in the early parts of the second quarter. Marquette found pay dirt on the legs of Tucker Welch who was able to tie things up with under two minutes left in the half. With just :14 left in the first half Lucas O’Donnell brought in a pass to put the Northmen back up headed into halftime. Petoskey added on to their lead in the fourth quarter to go up by 12. Marquette tried their best to battle back, but the Petoskey defense was able to stifle the Marquette offense. The Northmen put the exclamation point on the win with a short yardage touchdown in the final minute of the game.

Marquette wraps up their 2023 campaign with a final record of 5-5. They finished second in their first year competing in the Big North Conference, and look forward to continued success heading into next season. Congratulations to all of the student-athletes, the seniors, and the coaching staff for another great year of Marquette Football.
