Cheifs Take Down Redettes In District Tournament On 97.5 GTO

Marquette, MI – June 1, 2021 – The Marquette Redette varsity softball team matched up against the Cheyboygan Cheifs for the MHSAA District Semifinal on Tuesday. The game was broadcast live on 97.5 GTO.

Marquette Batter
The Cheboygan Cheifs took control early and didn’t let go. Libby VanFleet was able to single to lead things off. After a couple walks and a stolen base, VanFleet was able to steal home on a wild pitch. Courtesy runner Shayla Lavigne found herself in the same scenario and scored. Marley Couture as hit home off a sacrifice fly by Jordan Ashley.
The Redettes made a pitching change to Alaina Saari in the middle of the order during the first inning. Zoe Chamberlain greeted her with a RBI single. Saari followed that with a walk and a pass ball that scored another run. The lead-off hitter came back around in the inning and cleared the bases with a 2 RBI double. Cheifs end the inning up 7-0.
Marquette would get on the board in the top half of the fourth inning. Lyndsey Lake recorded a RBI double that brought Paige Hendrickson acorss the plate. That would be the only run scored by the Redettes. The Cheif’s Morgan Brandau was able to get a hold of the ball to get herself a two-run homer to put her team up, 9-1.

Cheboygan Batter
Cheboygan’s Ashley was able to score the 10th run by hitting Amelia Johnson home. The Cheifs were able to implement the mercy rule off a strikeout that the catcher couldn’t hold on to leading to Zoe Chamberlain, sitting at third, to make her way home to score the final run.
