Traverse City, MI – December 18th, 2021 – The Marquette Redmen basketball team faced off against the TC West Titans this afternoon in their second game in two days.
Q: The Titans were given a technical foul during warmups, so the game started with two successful free throws from Guard David Eberhard. Since it was a technical foul, the Redmen were given possession after the free throws and took advantage of the opportunity. An 8-0 start unfolded after a few steals from the Redmen. The Titans answered with 6 straight points after Marquette’s perfect start, but Eberhard scored a nice bucket to get the Redmen back on track. The remainder of the quarter seemed fair and fast paced, but it was Redmen foreign exchange student Yawnish Bishick that eventually gave Marquette the 1st quarter victory, scoring 9 points to give his team the 18-14 lead heading into the 2nd.
Q: The quarter opened with three consecutive fouls on the Redmen, sending the Titans to the line that produced 5 straight points to take the one point lead. Marquette struggled to score points in the quarter as they had opportunities, but couldn’t connect. The fouls didn’t help at all either, as it seemed the Titans were getting every call in the 1st half. After only scoring 4 points, the Redmen were trailing 30-22 at halftime.
Q: The 2nd half started with a couple free throws for the Redmen thanks to Justin Jurmu and Jordan Demay. The Titans took some time to get some points on the board, but finally started to develop some points after back to back drives. With just under 4 minutes to play in the quarter, it was the Titans with a 34-24 lead. After a few more buckets from each team, it was still the Titans with a 39-27 lead heading into the final quarter.
Q: Bishick drilled a triple to start the quarter to cut the deficit to 9, but moments later David Eberhard fouled out of the ball game. A pair of free throws from the Titans once again extended the lead to 11 with just under 6 minutes to play in the game.Marquette continued to struggle to score points as only one bucket was able to fall in the next 4 minutes. The Titans had a 48-31 lead with 2 minutes remaining when they entered the substitutes, Marquette Head Coach Brad Nelson followed suit. The Redmen would lose their 2nd straight to open the season. The Titans would go on to win 51-32.
