Redettes Survive the Maroons, 47-42
- Updated: January 28, 2022

Marquette, MI – January 28th, 2022 – The Marquette Redettes basketball team continued their campaign this evening against the Menominee Maroons, their second game in two days. The game was broadcasted on 97.5 GTO.
1Q: Maria Millado won the tip to start the game, which set up a quick score for Siena Lingle. After
completing a defensive stop, the Redettes scored again to take a 4-0 lead, but Menominee got on the
board on their next offensive possession. The Redettes continued to apply pressure and find success
offensively, two easy buckets gave Marquette an 8-2 lead with 5:30 remaining in the opening quarter.
Zoe Smith connected from deep a few minutes later for the Redettes to bury the first triple of the
game. After a great offensive start for the Redettes, they held off the Maroons after one quarter
of play. Marquette led 13-7.

Redettes vs Maroons
2Q: The Redettes started the quarter with a chance at an old fashion three point play from Millado, but the free throw was missed, Marquette took the eight point lead. Defense lead to offense on the next two possessions for Marquette, as Millado and Lingle both went coast-to-coast for layups after successfully pick pocketing the Maroons. After an uneventful few minutes, Zoe Smith buried another triple to take the 22-10 lead with three minutes to play in the half. Marquette played excellent defense down the stretch that led to multiple points offensively. Maria Millado also dominated the first half as she outscored the entire Maroons team with 17. At the half, Marquette led 31-16.
3Q: The Redettes started with possession to start the second half, but no buckets were scored. The third quarter was actually scoreless for the first 2:30 minutes, when it was Menominee connecting on a triple, Zoe Smith answered back with her own three pointer a few seconds later. Menominee then began pressing and applying pressure defensively, which caused some problems for the Redettes. They were held to no points in a four minute span. Thanks to their early lead, Marquette still lead by 13 heading into the 4th quarter.

Marquette vs Menominee
4Q: Menominee began the quarter with the basketball as they were successful on their first possession,
cutting the deficit to eleven. Marquette seemed content with the lead as they tried holding on the basketball without being aggressive at all. Menominee was able to cut the deficit to six with 4:30 remaining. Marquette began to waste clock and still manage to put points on the board as Maria Millado stepped up when it mattered. Free throws and ball security ended the ball game, although the Maroons made a good push late, but it wasn’t enough. Marquette went on to win 47-42, winning their second straight game in two days.
Maria Millado was the Player of the Game.
Final: Marquette 47 Menominee 42
