Redettes Lose Big to Copper Kings
- Updated: January 14, 2022

Marquette, MI – January 14th, 2022 – The Marquette Redettes basketball squad hoped to stay hot tonight, with a contest against the undefeated Calumet Copper Kings.

Redettes Warmup
1Q: Marquette started out on the right foot with a bucket from MacPhee right out of the gates, but Calumet quickly responded with 7 unanswered points. Maria Millado got the Redettes back on the scoreboard with a layup, but once again, a three pointer from the Copper Kings silenced the crowd. A
few possessions later, Zoe Smith continued her deep range success as she buried a three pointer to cut the deficit to 4. Calumet closed the quarter with a 10-0 run to lead 21-7 after one quarter of play.
2Q: The Copper Kings started the second quarter with not one, but two old fashioned three point plays, they led 27-7 to start the second quarter. Marquette scored their first points of the quarter with just under 6 minutes left in the half. On the other end, Calumet scored a layup to take the 32-9 lead. The Redettes were able to score midway through the quarter, but the Copper Kings stuck with them, being able to score with ease on each possession. Back and forth play ended the half with a 40-15 lead for the Copper Kings.

Redettes Huddle
3Q: The second half started with a Redette possession that resulted in a steal and score for the Copper Kings. Calumet continued to dominate the opening minutes of the third quarter, as they led 47-17 with just under 6 minutes to play in the quarter. The trend continued into the second half as Calumet scored after almost every Marquette bucket. The Copper Kings did a fantastic job taking care of the basketball as they almost gave no opportunity for the Redettes to climb back into the game. After three quarters of play, the Copper Kings led 55-23.
4Q: The Copper Kings opened the quarter with eight straight points to take the 63-23 lead. With the 40 point lead, the remainder of the game would wrap up quickly with the running clock. Marquette would lose big to the red hot Copper Kings, to lose their 6th game of the season.
Final: Marquette 27 Calumet 69
The Redettes will continue their season next Tuesday, as they travel to Gladstone to take on the Braves. The ball will tip at 7:15 as you can hear the broadcast on 103.3 WFXD.
