1st Quarter: Marquette start the game on a 9-0 run with Jonas Bicik feeding the ball to Jordan DeMay, sinking a corner 3-pointer. On the following offensive possession, Bicik again assists DeMay with a pass and DeMay makes the layup while drawing a foul. Justin Jurmu makes bank shot with an and-1 opportunity, completing the three point play.

David Eberhard gets on the board with a pair of layups to extend the lead to 13-5 with 4  minutes to go in the first quarter. Bicik gets an offensive rebound and tips it back in. Marquette ends the quarter with clear momentum on both sides of the ball and looked to continue that in the second quarter.

End of 1st: Marquette 15, Kingsford 7

2nd Quarter: Redmen Bicik drives the ball to the lane straight out of the inbound pass making a contested layup. Kingston’s guard Nick Nora responds by draining a 3-pointer for his first points of the game. With 5 minutes to play in the first half, the Flivvers looked to claw their way back with a Marquette turnover and Kingston layup, making the score 17-12.

After scoring 15 points in the first quarter, the Redmen were held in check in the second quarters first 5 minutes by only scoring 2 points. Marquette finally gets going with Jurmu cutting into the lane and making an open layup. The Flivvers would again cut the lead down to 5 points with under 2 minutes to go refusing to let the Redmen run away with the game. Jurmu makes another field goal by receiving a backdoor pass to make the layup and extend the lead back to 7 points. Kingston showed more of an offensive and defensive fight in the quarter as they would cut the lead down to 5 points. Foul trouble plagued both teams in the first half as they look to remedy that during the break.

3rd Quarter: Kingsford Flivvers opens the scoring by scoring a driving layup and getting the lead down to one possession. Kingsford hits the gas pedal as they cause a turnover on defense and taking advantage on offense by making a bank shot cutting the lead down to one point. With 4:45 to go in the quarter, Kingsford gets their first lead of the night by making a tough layup in traffic forcing Marquette to take a timeout.

Much like the second quarter, Marquette struggled to score in the opening minutes. Bicik ends the drought with an open shot down by the basket and retakes the lead with under 4 minutes in the 3rd quarter. Bicik on the ensuing offensive possession again makes a contested layup to extend the lead to 3 for the Redmen. After the Flivvers retook the lead, Jordan DeMay gets his own offensive rebound, making the tip while getting fouled. 4th Quarter: With a close game, Marquette’s defense stepped up to start out the 4th quarter as they steal the ball and make the field goal on the fast break. Wyatt Lakenen gets his first points of the night by making 1/2 free throws and extending the Redmen lead back up to 5 points. Refusing to let Marquette go on another run, Flivver Nora drains a 3-pointer to cut the lead down to 35-33.

The game would go back and forth with both teams picking up their offensive pace and driving up the score 43-39 with 3 minutes to go. With each team answering each other on offense, Marquette calls a timeout to see if they can get together to pull away. Following that timeout, Bicik drives into the lane and almost make a layup but comes away with the shooting foul. Easton Clements understood the assignment as he put up 4 points with 1 minute to play and extending the Redmen lead to 7 points. Jordan DeMay puts the nail in the coffin by cutting into the lane and making a layup with 30 seconds to go, removing any hope the Flivvers had to win the game.

Marquette ends the game with relative ease compared to how the game was being played in the last quarter. Both teams combined for a 29 points in that last quarter with Marquette being able to pull away in the closing minute of the game.

End of Game: Marquette 50, Kingsford 41
