Marquette Cruises To 76-34 Win Over Ishpeming

Marquette, MIJanuary 31st, 2022 – The Marquette Redmen boys basketball team continued their season tonight against the Ishpeming Hematites. This game was being made up after the original contest was cancelled due to Covid-19 protocols a few weeks ago. The game was broadcasted on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 – 99.9.

1Q: The Redman and David Eberhard started strong in the opening minute as Eberhard scored four quick points. Parker Gauthier, a Sophomore for the Hematites answered with a triple. Marquette started to heat up defensively as a few steals led to some quick and easy layups, with just under 4:30 remaining in the opening quarter, Marquette led 10-5. The five point lead soon grew to nine thanks to Jonas Bicik of Marquette after draining a few wide open triples. Bicik continued to dominate the opening quarter as he finished with fifteen. Marquette began the 2nd quarter with a 23-9 lead.

2Q: Marquette began the quarter with three quick points to extend the lead to seventeen. After an Ishpeming turnover, Marquette’s Ben Weber connected from deep to take a 29-9 lead. The Hematites did an excellent job at rebounding the basketball in the later minutes of the quarter, as most of their points came from offensive put backs. Marquette moved the ball with ease, leading to an abundant amount of open shots, which led to a lot of points in the first half. After two quarters of play, Marquette led 45-19.

3Q: Ishpeming began the second half with possession but could not get the scoring going, as Marquette came up short on their first possession as well. Marquette came out a little slow compared to their first half start, as their first bucket came with 5:20 remaining in the 3rd quarter. Ishpeming took advantage of the Redmen slump, as they were able to cut away at the deficit in the later parts of the quarter, but Marquette was able to respond with 2:00 minutes remaining to make it a 59-29 ball game. Jonas Bicik began to dominate once again as he tallied ten late quarter points, Marquette led 64-29 heading into the final quarter of play.

4Q: Marquette opened the 4th quarter with nine straight points to take the 73-29 lead, resulting in a running clock to quickly end the remainder of the quarter. After an incredible unselfish game from the Redmen and a dominate showing from Jonas Bicik, Marquette went on to win the game by a final score of 76-34.

Jonas Bicik won the Player of the Game, leading all scorers with 27 in just three quarters of play.
