Marquette, MI – June 22nd, 2026 – The U.P. All-Star Football Game provided players, coaches, family members, and fans one final opportunity to watch some of the Upper Peninsula’s top graduating seniors take the field together. Last year’s contest was a one-sided affair, as Team Black, coached by Robin Marttila, cruised to a 56-7 victory over Team Red. This year’s matchup, however, proved to be much more competitive.
Both teams opened the game with punts before Team Royal broke through on its second possession. Quarterback Tanner Theuerkauf connected with Owen Baij on a pass across the middle, and Baij finished the play with a touchdown to give Team Royal an early 7-0 lead. The score remained unchanged through the remainder of the first quarter.
Team White responded in the second quarter with a strong offensive drive. Dawson Bardowski capped the possession with a tough rushing touchdown, powering through multiple defenders to cut the deficit to 7-6. Team Royal answered quickly. Running back Brayden Goudge found a crease in the defense and exploded for a 50-yard touchdown run, restoring Team Royal’s advantage and giving his team a 14-6 lead heading into halftime.
During the break, fans were treated to a pair of youth flag football games featuring young athletes from across Marquette County, offering a glimpse into the future of Upper Peninsula football.
Receiving the second-half kickoff, Team Royal wasted little time extending its lead. Theuerkauf and Baij connected for their second touchdown of the afternoon, with Baij breaking away from a defender after the catch before reaching the end zone. The score pushed Team Royal’s lead to 21-6. After another defensive stop, Team Royal continued to roll offensively. This time, Theuerkauf used his legs, finding the end zone on a rushing touchdown to give his team a commanding 28-6 advantage.
With its offense struggling to gain momentum, Team White received a spark from its defense. Daniel Connor Jr. broke through the offensive line, forced a fumble, recovered it himself, and raced into the end zone for a defensive touchdown, trimming the deficit to 28-12. The momentum continued to swing in Team White’s favor on the ensuing possession. A series of big plays moved the ball deep into Team Royal territory before Bardowski connected with Nick Miskovich on a 30-yard touchdown pass. The score cut the lead to just 28-19 and gave Team White renewed hope late in the game.
Despite the comeback attempt, Team Royal made the necessary plays down the stretch, controlling possession and draining valuable time off the clock. Team White was unable to generate another scoring opportunity, allowing Team Royal to secure the victory 28-19. Following the game, Team Royal was presented with the championship trophy, while individual awards were handed out to recognize standout performances and leadership from both squads.
For Team Royal, Owen Baij earned Offensive MVP honors after scoring two touchdowns, while Landen Daigneau was named Defensive MVP. Mack Pugh received the Character Award for his leadership and sportsmanship throughout the week.
