Harris, MI – May 30, 2015 – Approximately 144 professional women golfers from around the world will compete in the 3-day Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass – part of the Symetra Tour, beginning on June 26th in Harris.
The Symetra Tour, which includes 23 tournaments in 12 states, is designed to prepare the world’s best young women professional golfers for a successful career on the LPGA Tour. One of these young women is Krista Puisite from Latvia, who attended the promotional event for the Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass. Great Lakes Radio golf enthusiasts Gordy Mielke and Bill Tibor caught up with Krista at the event.

The Symetra Tour features many women who hope to break onto the pro circuit – the top ten money winners at the end of the Tour automatically earn LPGA membership for the following year. The Event Purse at the Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass is $125,000 and is part of the Potawatomi Cup. A total of $50,000 players’ bonus will be awarded based on performance at the five Potawatomi Nation casino sponsored events.
The Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass runs June 26th, 27th, & 28th and tickets are only $10 for the entire 3-day event and are available in advance from several local non-profits or at the main gate to the Event grounds. Proceeds from ticket sales benefit the YMCA of Delta County. The event will be fun for the whole family and youth 17 and under get in free, so bring your whole family to the Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass.
