Runners Fill The Streets This Weekend for the Marquette Half & Full Marathon Plus the Blackrocks 5k!
- Updated: August 31, 2017
Marquette, MI – August 31, 2017 – If you’re a runner, this is your weekend! With a slew of races planned for Saturday, September 2nd, runners will be coming to the Marquette Area from all over the country.
Starting bright and early with a Marquette Marathon, athletes will line up in Ishpeming for a 7:30am start time. This will be the 8th year for the Marquette Marathon. Runners will traverse through Ishpeming, Negaunee, and Marquette along the beautiful Iron Ore Heritage Trail and the coastline for this 26 mile race.
Following the full marathon, the Marquette Half Marathon starts at 9:00am Saturday morning. Beginning at the Michigan Iron Industry Museum in Negaunee, the race is expected to wrap up by 4:00pm. From the Iron Ore Heritage Trail, the two races will separate until the finish as runners pass the Lake Superior shoreline. Both the full and half marathon are Boston Marathon Qualifier Courses for people looking to enter the rigorous East Coast race.
Finally the Blackrocks 5K will also commence at 9:00am with runners starting from Presque Isle Park in Marquette. Moving past the Ore Dock along the Lake Superior coast, the course will turn into the town along Fair Avenue before finishing on Third Street. The 5K will be chip timed with prizes for the top three runners.
Come out and cheer on these athletes as they push through the Boston Marathon Qualifiers, or run for fun! After the races, meet up for a cold one at Blackrocks Brewery.
All three races will finish at Third Street and Michigan so road closures or delays are to be expected.
See more information on each race here.
