World Series Begins, Red Wings Take On Hurricanes
- Updated: October 25, 2016
Marquette, MI – The Chicago Cubs haven’t been to a World Series since 1945 and actually won a World Series since 1908. The Cleveland Indians on the other hand haven’t won a World Series since 1948. Both teams have combines without a championship for 176 years. Both teams will begin the series with their top pitchers on the mound. Cleveland will send Cory Kluber and the Cubs will counter with lefty Jon Lester.
It has been 39,457 days since the Chicago Cubs last won a World Series in 1908. Neither TV or Radio had even been invented yet. Since the last World Series appearance, the Cubs have finished in the top half of their division only 13 times since World War II.
The Cleveland Indians haven’t won anything since 1948. In a 16-year span from 1962 to 1978, the Indians went through six ownership changes. From 1969 until 1989, Cleveland finished in last place or second to last place in 16 of 21 seasons. In just over ten days from now, one team will have snapped one of the two longest World Series droughts.
The Detroit Red Wings are riding a four game win streak heading into tonight’s home game against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hurricanes have yet to play a home game this year six games into the young season. Carolina will be without a key player in left wing Jeff Skinner as he recovers from an injury sustained in a fight. The game between the Wings and Canes begins at 7:30 pm.
