Vintage Verlander, Tigers Trade For Prospects And Detroit Signings

Marquette, MI – 7/31/17 – The Detroit Tigers put together an impressive victory over the Houston Astros 13-1 Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park. Tigers Justin Verlander pitched a great game going back to his vintage years of dominating on the mound. He went six innings giving up five hits, three walks and struck out six with a pitch count of 110. Tigers outfielder Justin Upton had a career tying day with six RBI including a grand slam in the seventh inning. The Tigers will now pack their bags and head to New York for a three game series with the Yankees.
Tigers General Manager Al Avila is coming into his first Trade Deadline in the Major Leagues and has already made a move. Shortly after 11 pm last night the Tigers Traded closer Justin Wilson and catcher Alex Avila to the Chicago Cubs for a pair of minor league players. The Tigers acquire third baseman Jeimer Candelario and shortstop Isaac Paredes, both in the to tel according to MLB’s top 30 prospects in the Cubs organization. Candelario comes to Detroit as the number one overall prospect in the Cubs farm system while Paredes comes in at number 10.
The Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Lions made some signing over the weekend. The Red Wings agreed with forward Thomas Tatar on a four year contract worth 4.8 million a year. Tatar led the team in goals last year with 25. The Lions agreed to a two year extension with safety Glover Quinn worth 13 million with a 9.5 million in guaranteed money. Quinn is a starter on the Lions defense and a former Pro Bowler.
