USA WINS, Red Wings Skate to Shutout and Redmen Hockey

Marquette, MI – The USA Junior Hockey team skated to the World Junior Championships undefeated and it stayed that way after a 5-4 shootout win over heavily favored Canada. The Canadians took a 4-2 lead into the third period on goals by Nicolas Ray and Mathieu Joseph but Kieffer Bellows and Colin White came up huge for the USA adding goals to tie the game at four. The Shootout came and USA’s goalie Tyler Parsons stopped every Canada attempt and the game was left on to Troy Terry’s stick who put it into the net to seal the championship for the USA. The Teams met for the fourth time in the Championship Round, The Americans have beat Canada three of the four games played. Next stop for most of these players are heading back to the OHL, AHL and CCHA.

The Detroit Red Wings finally picked up a much needed victory over the Los Angeles Kings 4-0. Red Wings Goalie Jared Correau picked up his first NHL shutout stopping 34 shots on net. The Red Wings scoring was led by Thomas Vanek who added who added two goals while Andreas Athanasiou added a goal and two assists. The Red Wings now look to the San Jose Sharks who they pay a visit to on Saturday.

The Marquette Redmen hockey team picked up a victory last night over the Negaunee Miners 8-0 in Negaunee. The Redmen were led by Colin Gaffney, Joe Phillips and Luke Beerman who all added two goals a piece. Redmen goalie Dylan Silbilsky had 24 saves in the win, giving him his first shutout of the season. The Redmen now look to next week when they travel to Traverse City for a tournament.
