Tigers roar falters, Yankees, USA Hockey and Adam Carpenter
- Updated: September 14, 2016
Marquette, MI – When you look at last nights Tigers game on paper, you look at the pitching matchup and think to yourself, this game should not have been a hitting struggle for the Tigers. Minnesota Twins starter Kyle Gibson entered the game with an unsightly 5-9 record with a below average ERA. This game should have been a walk in the park for the Tigers but the offense crumbled, mustering up only six hits and one run in the 8-1 loss. The Tigers are now 2 games back in the wild card race and 6 games back in the Central standings behind the Cleveland Indians.
The Yankees have continued to make the AL East interesting. Jacoby Ellsbury and Didi Gregorius became the first Yankees since Moose Skowron and Tommy Byrne in 1957 to go back to back in a game they didn’t start. The Yankees shut out the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-0 to pull within 4 games of the Red Sox in the AL East and two games out of the final wild card spot.
The United States hockey team defeated Finland 3-2 on Tuesday night in the final exhibition games for both teams. The World Cup will begin on Saturday in Toronto when the United States take on Europe. Jonathan Quick has been named the starting goalie while Ben Bishop will be the back up. The team looks prepared to make a run at the gold with lots of young talent and a good goal-tending.
Adam Carpenter stopped by to talk football and hockey with us this morning. We went over the NFL power rankings and what flaws each team might have. You can listen to Adam on his Outdoor show thats on 103FXD Monday through Friday from 3pm to 7pm.
