Marquette, MI – The Detroit Tigers got knocked around this past weekend losing two of three in a series against the Los Angeles Angles. At Comerica Park on Sunday, former Tigers Jefry Marte had a two run homer run in the fifth inning off of Anibal Sanchez and led the way with three RBI for the Angels. Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs got the win while Anibal Sanchez for Detroit recieved the loss.
The Marquette Redmen opened up there season with the Gladiators of Traverse City St.Francis on Friday. The Superior Dome was filled with Redmen fans both young and old as their season began. The Redmen came out playing strong with great offensive plays and defensive stands and went into the half down 14-7. The second half was dominated by the Gladiators who ran the ball all half only making one pass. The Gladiators scored 26 second half points to get the victory. The Marquette Redmen play next on Thursday in Traverse City as they take on Traverse City Central High School. The Redmen will come in off a opening loss with a record of 0-1. As for Traverse City Central they are coming in off an opening week win against Bay City Western 41-0. The game kicks off in Traverse City at 7pm on Thursday, September 1st.
The hockey season is upon us and the NHL is coming to Marquette. Kraft Hockeyville USA awarded Marquette as the most passionate hockey community in the United States. Two NHL teams will be playing a preseason game at Lakeview Arena in Marquette on October 4th. The Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres will be participating in the contest. Doug Garrow Hockeyville USA Representative stopped by to chime in on all the events and upgrades for the coming event.
