Marquette, MI – The Tigers are hot! Ian Kinsler and Victor Martinez led the way in yesterdays ball game both with two run doubles. Catcher James McCann was in on the action bombing a three run homer in the contest to give the Tigers an 8-5 victory and a sweep of the Twins. Daniel Norris improved his record to 2-2 on the season while striking out 5 in 6.1 innings. The Tigers are now 4.5 games back in the Central due to a Cleveland loss to the Texas Rangers. The Wild Card standing are going in favor of Detroit due to the teams ahead of them also losing in their games as well. The Tigers host the Los Angeles Angles for a three game series this weekend at Comerica Park, first pitch is at 7:05 when Justin Verlander takes the mound.

The Marquette Senior High School Redmen football season opens up tonight at the Superior Dome taking on Traverse City St.Francis Gladiators in a rematch from opening week last year. The Gladiators won last years contest 42-0 and went 12-1 the rest of the season. Today Pete Kolbus joined Ryan Ranguette and John Thomsen for JR and Friends and went over this years Redmen team and the outlook on their season. Broadcast for the game begin with a pregame show at 6:30pm on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 and 99.9. The game between the Redmen and Gladiators is also Big Game of the Week and will also air on 103FXD.

Other teams around the area also kickoff their seasons as well starting with the Ishpeming Hemitites who will travel to take on Iron Mountain at 6pm. The Negaunee Miners will be in Manistique as they look to come back home with a victory.
