The Sports Drive Live from Smarty’s Saloon
- Updated: July 11, 2019

Negaunee, MI – July 11, 2019 – With Pioneer Days in Negaunee in full swing on Thursday, the guys took the show on the road to Smarty’s Saloon for the day. While they were there, Luke and Mark did a little “quality control” testing on some of the beverages offered at Smarty’s, spoke with a few guests, and even talked a little sports over the course of the afternoon.
Luke and Mark talked about a few U.P. softball players that will be participating in statewide all-star games, and the growth of softball as a high school sport. Ryan Reichel, the Ishpeming girls basketball coach, joined the show to talk about Pioneer Days and what it means to the community, as well as what he’s been doing in the off-season. Among the other topics discussed were the Yooper Co-ed Softball League, the importance of reunion events like Pioneer Days, and the need for young athletes to stay away from specializing in only one sport.
