The Sports Drive: Huge Changes to MHSAA Football Playoff Structure + NMU Hockey Scheduled Announced

Marquette, MIMay 9, 2019 – The MHSAA announced Wednesday changes to playoff structure in boys/girls basketball, soccer, and football. Basketball and soccer will seed the top two teams in each districts based on a Michigan Power Rating. But the biggest change comes to qualifying for the MHSAA football postseason.

Geoff Kimmerly, Media Content Coordinator for the MHSAA, joined the Sports drive to break down the changes. There will be no more automatic qualification based on win total. Instead, divisions will be assigned before the season, and 32 teams will make the playoffs in each division based on average playoff points. There are changes to the playoff point structure allocation that will provide incentive to playing better teams.

Marquette Senior High School Athletic Director Alex Tiseo made his first appearance on the show in over 3 weeks to talk everything MSHS sports. Alex breaks down how all the seasons are going, and weighs in on the changes to the football playoff structure.

NMU Hockey released their schedule on Wednesday morning. Luke and Mark break down all the big matchups for the 2019-2020 ‘Cats.
