The Sports Drive: High School Football Playoff Preview
- Updated: October 26, 2018

Marquette, MI – October 26, 2018 – Round One of the Michigan High School Football Playoffs get under way tonight for many U.P. Teams. All week Luke and Mark were talking with coaches ahead of their matchups. The Sports Drive heard from many of those coaches today.
The Ishpeming Hematites are taking on the Gwinn Modeltowners at the Playgrounds at 7:00 PM tonight. The Hematites defeated Gwinn 44-8 earlier this season, but both coaches are confident the game will be much closer tonight. The Sports Drive caught up with both Ishpeming Coach Jeff Olson and Gwinn Coach Dion Brown to talk about the contest.
The Westwood Patriots are looking for redemption as they head up to Calumet tonight to take on the 9-0 Copper Kings. The Patriots lost their regular season match with Calumet in Week 3 14-12 in a hard fought game. Luke caught up with Patriots head coach Scott Syrjala to talk about how this game will be different.
The West Iron County Wykons are headed below the Mackinac Bridge as they head to Rogers City for their first round matchup. The Wykons, looking to repeat the deep run they had last year, are excited about traveling for Game 1 and knowing that with a win, Round 2 will be played in the U.P. against the Ishpeming-Gwinn winner. Mike Berutti, Wykons head coach, joined the Sports Drive to talk about West Iron’s season and postseason.
Tune into the Sports Drive weekdays from 3-5pm on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 – 99.9 and online at foxsportsmarquette.com
