Sanchez Moonshot, Cavs Pull Trigger And Athanasiou KHL Talk

Ryan Ranguette and Luke Ghiardi

Marquette, MI – 8/23/17 – Gary Sanchez came up in the first inning and hit a moonshot to left field at Comerica Park Tuesday night as the New York Yankees rout the Detroit Tigers 13-4. Tigers pitcher Matt Boyd struggled on the mound allowing seven runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings. The only bright spot for the Tigers was third baseman Nicholas Castellanos who had two home runs in the game, one of which was an inside the park home run. Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka pitched seven strong innings allowing three runs on six hits. The Tigers continue their series with the Yankees tonight in Detroit.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics agreed to a massive trade on Tuesday afternoon. The Cavaliers agreed to send super star Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics for Isiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and Brooklyn’s 2018 unprotected first round pick. This all comes in the wake of a demand from Irving, who no longer wanted to play with Lebron James in Cleveland. The two teams open up the season starting off against each other.

The Detroit Red Wings got word last night that one of their most coveted prospects may take another contract offer and head to the KHL. Andreas Athanasiou is coming off an entry-level contract as a restricted free agent. Red Wings GM Ken Holland has not re-signed Athanasiou allowing him to talk to other teams and in this case, leagues. If Athanasiou signs with a KHL team the Red Wings would retain his rights if he ever returned to the NHL.
