NMU Hockey Gets Ranked, Lions Beat Packers And Red Wings Victorious

Marquette, MI – 11/7/17 – The Northern Michigan Wildcats Men’s Ice Hockey (5-3, 3-1 WCHA) entered the national rankings for the first time this season after their split this past weekend with #9 Minnesota St. Mankato. The Wildcats received votes to earn the ranking of number-20 in the USCHO.com Poll. It is their second top-10 victory of the season. A week before the Wildcats received only 49 votes, this week it hit 61. The Wildcats now look to a home and home taking on rival Michigan Tech beginning on Friday at Tech.
The Detroit Lions came into Lambeau Field having only won one time in the past 25 years. The most recent victory was in 2015, the last time before that was 1991. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford led the Lions charge as they came out with a 30-17 victory over the Green Bay Packers. Stafford was 26 of 33 for 361 yards and two touchdowns. The Lions receivers also had a field day with Golden Tate catching 7 times for 113 yards and Marvin Jones Jr. pulling in two touchdowns for 107 yards. The Packers continue to slide in the standings after losing quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the season due to a broken collarbone, have now lost three straight games. The NFC North will be a close battle between Minnesota and Detroit in the second half of the season, one this is apparent, the Packers are in a massive struggle.
The Detroit Red Wings have now won four of their last five games thanks to a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Monday night. The Red Wings were led by goaltender Jimmy Howard who had 26 saves. The Red Wings got goals from Darren Helm, Martin Frk and Thomas Tatar. The Red Wings are now 7-6-1 on the season with 17 points, they continue their road-trip on Thursday night as they take on the Calgary Flames.
