
Marquette, MI – 10/2/17 – The Negaunee Miners and Ishpeming Hemitites clashed for a Mid-Pen Conference match-up on Friday night with the Miners coming out on top 21-14. The Miners started the season off going 0-3 and are currently on a three game win streak and hopes for the playoffs aren’t over. The Miners lost 19 seniors last year and were expected to have a “rebuilding” type of year. Head Coach Paul Jacobson has been one of the best coaches in the Upper Peninsula and right now his team is 3-3. The Miners were out-gained on the ground but the defense made big stands and key plays in their victory. The Miners look to continue their win streak this Friday when they welcome in the Manistique Emeralds.
Marquette Senior High School Head Hockey Coach Doug Garrow stopped in this morning to talk about the upcoming hockey season and some adventures he’s been able to go on this year. Garrow talked about the Redmen’s upcoming season and some key returning players. Kraft Hockeyville was in Marquette last year and coach went over his time going to this years Kraft Hockeyville in Pittsburgh.
The Detroit Lions came up with their second victory on the road as they beat the Minnesota Vikings 14-7 in Minnesota. The Lions were led by team captain and quarterback Matthew Stafford who threw for 209 yards while running back Ameer Abdullah rushed for a touchdown on 94 yards. The Lions now look to next Sunday as they take on the Carolina Panthers.
