Marquette Senior High School, Wolverines Lose And College Football Playoffs

Marquette, MI – 1/2/17 – The Marquette Redettes will be back in action tonight as they get set to take on the Gwinn Modeltowners at 7:15 pm. The Redettes come into the game undefeated at 7-0. Marquette Senior High School Athletic Director stopped by to talk about athletics and the opening of the new gym. The auxiliary gym is now open for all sports to take place. The JV games will be held in the gym when the varsity teams are playing. This morning Alex talked bout the lights and the advantages for students with the new gym.
The Michigan Wolverines struggled in the Outback Bowl yesterday falling to the South Carolina Gamecocks for the second time in 5 years by a score of 26-19. South Carolina’s Jake Bentley threw from 239 yards and two touchdowns in the victory and gives the Gamecocks at least nine wins in a season for just the seventh time. The Wolverines struggled on offense and couldn’t capitalize on the Gamecock miscues. Wolverines quarterback Brandon Peters ended with 186 yards passing on 20-44 attempts and two interceptions. The Wolverines go into the off-season looking to build of an 8-5 finish.
The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Oklahoma Sooners in overtime by a score of 54-48 in the Rose Bowl. The Dawgs were led by running back Sony Michel who raced for a 27-yard touchdown in overtime to seal the victory and send Georgia to the National Championship game next Monday at 8 pm. The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Clemson Tigers 24-6 in the Sugar Bowl to advance to the National Title game. The Alabama defense was its best its been all year holding Clemson to 188 total yards, 260 below its season average. The National Title Game will be on Monday, January 8th at 8 pm.
