- Updated: August 29, 2017
Marquette, MI – 8/29/17 – The high school football season week one came and went with some surprising scores. The Marquette Redmen lost to Traverse City St.Francis, a team that beat them last year 40-14, this year Traverse City won 21-7. The Redmen were led by Andrew Gale who rushed for 133 yards as the running back in the Wildcat Offense. The Boyne City Ramblers welcomed in the Negaunee Miners and took off on offense with a 51-13 victory. The Ramblers also scored twice defensively on two fumbles. The Ishpeming Hemitites took on Iron Mountain in their opener coming out on top 34-7. Ishpeming had a great day on the ground with 387 yards rushing in the victory.
The Detroit Lions and quarterback Matthew Stafford agreed to a 5 year extension worth $135 million dollars, $92 million dollars guaranteed. The deal makes Matthew Stafford the highest paid player in the NFL at $27 million dollars a year. Stafford has over 30,000 yards passing in his career and has thrown at least 4,000 yards or more in each of his past five seasons.
The Detroit Tigers picked up a much needed win on Monday night with a 4-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies. Tigers third baseman Nicholas Castellanos had a heck of a day going 3-4 with three RBI.
