Hancock Wins In Double OT, NFL Picks And The Holiday Bowl

Marquette, MI – 12/28/17 – Last night in high school hockey two teams from the Copper Country, Hancock and Calumet went into double-overtime. The Hancock Bulldogs came out with a 5-4 victory in a barn burner. Hancock started the game with an early goal :35 into the game when Teddy Randell scored. Calumet ended the first period up 2-1 with goals from Brent and Dean Loukus. Hancock’s Austin Salani scored the game-tying goal in the third period to bring it to 4-4. In the first overtime, Hancock’s Teddy Randell was taken down in front of the net on a break away and was awarded a penalty shot that was stopped by Calumet’s Nick Voelker. Then with a minute remaining Petr Anderson scored a goal with less than one minute to play in double-overtime to put the Bulldogs in the championship game tonight against Houghton. The Calumet Copper Kings will play in the third place game tonight at 6 pm when they face Howell.

The Silver Badger is on vacation, Steve Whalen from Big Boy stopped in for NFL Picks of the Week. The “Yooper Bowl” is this Sunday with the Lions taking on the Green Bay Packers in Detroit at 1 pm. Steve is an avid Green Bay fan and for the last game of the season he chose the Lions to beat the Packers. If the Lions win they will have swept the season series. Ryan, Luke and The Silver Badger are currently trailing Steve, Walt Lindala and Adam Carpenter by four games with one week to go.

The Michigan State Spartans look to go into the new year with a bowl victory as they get set to take on the Washington State Cougars tonight in San Diego at 9 pm. The Spartans come in ranked #18 in the country while the Cougars are ranked #21. The winner will take home the Holiday Bowl.
