Diamond Jubilee Comes To An End, Michigan And Michigan State Basketball
- Updated: November 14, 2017

Marquette, MI – 11/14/17 – After 123 years the football rivalry between Marquette Senior High School and Negaunee High School will no longer be. The rivalry in 1965 decided on a trophy for the winner each year, that trophy became known as the Diamond Jubilee. The game between the two teams each year brought the community together, memories and bragging rights for the following year. High Schools in the Upper Peninsula this fall have been switching conferences and eliminating games that have been on their schedules for years. Another game affected by all the change has been the game between the Kingsford Flivvers and Iron Mountain. Football is king in the Upper Peninsula and the slightest of change can make a big impact on communities. Marquette Senior High School Athletic Director spoke of the change in schedules for Marquette and his displeasure with the ending of the rivalry. One thing is for sure, after 123 years, the streak will come to an end.
The Michigan Wolverines basketball team took on a team in the state on Monday, the Central Michigan Chippewas.
