Marquette, MI – 8/9/17 – Detroit Tigers starter Matthew Boyd stayed on the struggle bus Tuesday night as he was tagged for four runs in four innings plus as the Pittsburgh Pirates picked up a 6-3 victory over the Tigers. Pirates Chad Kuhl struck out six and walked just one in his victory. Outfielder Jeimer Candelario made his Tigers debut with a single in the game. Candelario was sent down following the loss while Jose Iglesias was put back on the 25-man roster. Tonight the Tigers will continue their series against the Pirates with Justin Verlander taking the mound against Ivan Nova.

UCLA junior quarterback Josh Rosen discussed the academic challenges that college football players face, saying “football and school don’t go together”. He suggested that Alabama wouldn’t be as successful if they raise the requirement on the SAT. UCLA announced its 15-year $280 million dollar deal with Under Armour in which Rosen went on to say, “we’re still amateurs though…gotta love non-profits”.

Umpire Joe West was suspended by Major League Baseball for three games after the comments he made towards Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre. In USA Today, West was quoted as saying, “I told him, you may be a great ballplayer, but you’re the worst umpire in the league. You stink”. His remarks to Beltre were during a game when Beltre came up to bat.
