Marquette, MI – April 7th, 2026 – Today we were joined by Marquette softball head coach Derek Swajanen, who shared insight from more than 30 years of coaching experience. We opened the show by discussing Marquette’s tournament held in the dome about a month ago. Swajanen expressed optimism about getting the season underway, weather permitting.
In the second segment, we dove into his background and coaching journey in both softball and baseball. It was great to hear how he got his start and reflect on the path that led him here, along with his perspective on the differences between the two sports. Swajanen also talked about his playing days at Ferris State, where he was part of four consecutive GLIAC championship teams.
We wrapped up by talking about his daughter, Charlye, a standout player who plays a key role on the Marquette softball team. It was especially interesting to hear about her journey to becoming a collegiate athlete and following in her father’s footsteps at Ferris State University.
