Marquette, MI – February 19, 2026 – The Kingsford Flivvers traveled up to Marquette tonight for the MSHAA Hockey Playoffs, and everything this season has built up to this moment. One team’s season was ending. Marquette High School Hockey made sure it wasn’t theirs.
Fans tuned in on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9, where Joe Gaffaney and Coach Larry Carey brought every heart-pounding moment live from Lakeview Arena.
First Period
Marquette wasted no time putting pressure on the Kingsford zone, firing off four quick shots to start the game. Kingsford goalie Skullen stood tall early, but the pressure was building. Then came a beautiful play from Seth Sandstrom, who ripped a high shot past Skullen to get Marquette on the board first. The energy inside Lakeview was electric. Midway through the period, Marquette struck again, capitalizing on another strong opportunity to take a two-goal lead. Kingsford answered shortly after with a shot from the left-side corner that snuck past Parker Nevenhoven, cutting the lead to one. But Marquette never backed off. The Sentinels kept the pressure heavy in the Kingsford zone, sending shot after shot toward the net, though no more would fall before the break.
Score:
Marquette 2 – 1 Kingsford
Second Period
Marquette came out in the second exactly how you want a playoff team to respond. Composed, aggressive, and locked in. The Sentinels controlled the puck in the Kingsford zone and kept Skullen working nonstop. A patient play from Trey Savala led to a shot on goal that Skullen initially stopped, but Caleb Aho was right there to tip in the rebound and restore the two-goal cushion.
And they were not done.
With their skates blazing, Marquette High School Hockey continued pouring on pressure and added three more goals in the period, turning a tight playoff game into a commanding lead.
Score:
Marquette 5 – 1 Kingsford
Third Period
Marquette dominated puck control in the final period, continuing to generate chances. Some shots tipped just wide, others were swallowed up by Skullen, but defensively the Sentinels stayed strong. Kingsford pushed hard, knowing their season was on the line, but they couldn’t solve Nevenhoven again. Marquette locked it down and skated out the final minutes with confidence.
And just like that, Marquette High School Hockey is moving on in the playoffs!
Final Score:
Marquette 5 – 1 Kingsford
