Marquette, MI – 9/18/17 – The Detroit Tigers went into Sunday’s game with a struggling 26-year old starter, Matthew Boyd. Boyd has had a rough go-around on the mound this year with a high ERA to go along with his 6-10 record. Boyd provided his best outing of the season nearly escaping with a no-hitter. Unfortunately, in the ninth inning with two outs, White Sox infielder Tim Anderson laced a double off of the wall and the no-hit bid was over. Boyd only allowed two runners while striking out five in the Tigers 12-0 victory. Tigers third baseman Jeimar Candelario added a three run homer in the 8th and Tigers right fielder Nicholas Castellanos added a two run homer for insurance. The tigers now turn their focus to the Oakland Athletics for a three game series.

The Michigan Wolverines picked up a victory on Saturday with a 29-13 victory over the Air Force Falcons at home. The Wolverines have struggled on the offensive side of the ball so far this year. Freshman return man Donovan Peoples-Jones ran back a kick return for 79 yards and kicker Quin Nordin kicked five field goals to lead the Wolverines to victory. The Wolverines will face the Purdue Boilermakers next Saturday.

The Green Bay Packers traveled to Atlanta to face the Falcons, a team that beat them in the NFC Championship game last year. Atlanta’s dominance continued as they beat the Packers to open up their new stadium 34-23. Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan threw for 252 yards and a touchdown and running back Devonta Freeman also added a pair of scored. The Packers return home next week to take on the Cincinnati Bengals.
