Marquette, MI – 7/717 – Anibal Sanchez won his first game since August 23rd of last year with an 8 strikeout performance in the Tigers 6-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Thursday afternoon. Sanchez allowed two runs and five hits with eight strikeouts and no walks. The Tigers took the lead in the second inning with RBI’s from Miguel Cabrera and Alex Presley then capping it all off with a two run homer from Dixon Machado. The Tigers now turn their focus to the Cleveland Indians for a three game series. Cleveland is currently in first place in the Central Division. The Tigers will send Jordan Zimmermann to the mound to face Carlos Carrasco in game one.
The Milwaukee Brewers are in first place in the NL Central by 4.5 games. Ryan Braun and the Brewers used a seven run third inning to rout the Chicago Cubs 11-2 on Thursday. Braun went 1-2 with two walks and two RBI. Domingo Santana had four hits and two RBI while Jesus Aguilar added three hits and an RBI. Cubs starter Mike Montgomery had a rough day on the mound giving up seven runs in 2 1/3 innings. The Brewers direct their attention to the Yankees this weekend for a three game series.
The NBA has had a crazy off-season thus far with many trades being made and free agents on the move. Tim Hardaway Jr. agreed to a four year deal with the New York Knicks for 71 million dollars. Hardaway is 6 foot 6 and had a breakout season after the Hawks traded away Kyle Korver. Due to more playing time Hardaway averaged 14.5 points per game. The final six weeks of the season Hardaway was tuning up opponents averaging 18 points per game in 32 minutes. Hardaway is a former Michigan Wolverine.
