
Marquette, MI – 6/13/17 – Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors are NBA Champions for the second time in three years with their victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers 129-120 on Monday night. Durant scored 39 points in the victory while Stephen Curry added 34 points and 10 assists. Cleveland’s LeBron James ended the series becoming the first player in NBA history to average a triple-double in the finals, on Monday night he had 41 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. Golden State’s Kevin Durant won the NBA Finals MVP and can finally silence the haters that never believed he would win an NBA title. LeBron James was quoted after the series loss by saying, “I left everything on the floor every game”. The NBA season is officially over, next up, the NBA Draft.
The Detroit Tigers will begin a series against the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight at Comerica Park. Detroit lost both games to the Diamondbacks earlier this year in Arizona. The Tigers will send righty Buck Farmer to the hill, since being called up Farmer is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. He has pitched a total of 13 innings and has struck out 11 batters. The Diamondbacks will send grizzled veteran Zach Greinke to the bump, Greinke comes into tonight’s game with a 3.20 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 84 1/3 innings. The right-hander has faced the Tigers a total of 28 times and has a 13-7 record in his career. The first pitch will be at 7:10 pm.
Marquette Senior High School Athletic Director Alex Tiseo stopped by this morning to bring us up to date on all of the plans this summer and upcoming events at Marquette Senior High School. The U.P. All-Star Basketball games will be held this upcoming weekend at Marquette. The skills competition will begin at 10 am followed by the girls game at noon and the boys game at 2 pm.
