Marquette, MI – The Detroit Red Wings had more than they could handle on Thursday night as they took on one of the hottest team in the NHL, the Washington Capitals. The Capitals collected their 11th consecutive win with a 6-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. Capitals T.J. Oshie scored twice and set-up the go-ahead goal for the Caps in the second period. Washington has now scored at least five goals in each of its past 10 home games, the only other team to do so was the Boston Bruins of the 1970-71 season. The Red Wings fall to 22-22-9 on the season and are playing another top team in the NHL on Saturday the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Detroit Pistons look to continue their winning ways tonight as they get set to take on the San Antonio Spurs at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The Pistons are coming off a big win over the Los Angeles Lakers a game in which they outscored the Lakers 36-20 in the third quarter. The Pistons will have a tough task with the Spurs who come in with a 40-12 record and coming off a win over the Memphis Grizzlies. The last time the Pistons and Spurs met the spurs came out on top 96-86. Tip-off will be at 7:30 pm tonight.

Today on JR and Friends we had a pair of firsts on the show, Marquette Hockey Broadcaster Joe Gaffney and Waterford Kettering High School graduate and Seattle Mariners Pitcher Paul Fry. Joe has been a great asset to the Great Lakes Radio Family and Fox Sports Marquette this year. John Thomsen and Joe Gaffney are together for every hockey game call on the radio, Joe has done a great job and we thank him for coming on.

Paul Fry is Ryan Ranguette’s friend from high school who is on the verge of beginning his major league career. Paul was drafted in the 17th round in 2013 from St.Clair Community College by the Seattle Mariners. Paul is a native of Waterford, Michigan and was a duel sport athlete, he has moved his way up in the Seattle Mariners farm system to get a shot this year to make the 40-man roster. We would like to give Paul all of our best wishes for him moving forward and can’t wait to see him on the mound for the Seattle Mariners.
