
Marquette, MI – The fans came, the hot dogs were cooking and the people of Marquette enjoyed their day. Kraft Hockeyville was awarded to the city of Marquette in April of this year, with $150,000 in upgrades to Lakeview, the game was finally here. Lakeview Arena opened up in 1974 and was home to many hockey players throughout the years, including Northern Michigan University. The NHL and NBC came and went but the gift of the night was the Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres. The Buffalo Sabres ended up winning 2-0 in front of a crowd of 3,100 plus. The city of Marquette put on a great schedule of events all week and the real winner coming out of Hockeyville, is the people of the city of Marquette.
The Red Wings had yet another preseason game last night with the Chicago Blackhawks, it wasn’t much of a game. Jimmy Howard’s net looked like a coal bin as the Blackhawks scored all six goals on soon to be back up Jimmy Howard. The main bright star from yesterday was Justin Abdelkader, it was announced that he would receive the alternate captaincy for the 2016-2017 season.
Tim Bullock Marquette Senior High School JV football coach stopped by to bring us up to date on his team and season. Tim is also excited about the new football field coming to Marquette High and about the future of the football program.
