College Basketball – Michigan State Beats Virginia – The Sweet 16 Is Set

Travis Trice scored 23 points as seventh-seeded Michigan State upended second-seeded Virginia 60-54 in East Regional play in Charlotte yesterday afternoon.

Branden Dawson added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Spartans.

Michigan State bounced Virginia from the “Big Dance” for the second straight year.

Virginia ends the year 30-and-4.

The Sweet 16 field is set.

Top-seeded and undefeated Kentucky will clash with fifth-seeded West Virginia on Thursday.

Also in regional semifinal action on Thursday, top-seeded Wisconsin meets fourth-seeded North Carolina, third-seeded Notre Dame takes on seventh-seeded Wichita State, and second-seeded Arizona faces sixth-seeded Xavier.

On Friday, second-seeded Gonzaga plays 11th-seeded UCLA.

Also Friday, fourth-seeded Louisville faces eighth-seeded NC State, top-seeded Duke goes up against fifth-seeded Utah, and third-seeded Oklahoma meets seventh-seeded Michigan State.
