Marquette Redmen Get Their First Win of the Season In Sault Ste Marie 31-7
- Updated: September 8, 2017

Sault Ste Marie- September 8th, 2017- It was a difficult start to the season for the Marquette Redmen. They were coming off two losses against two really touch Traverse City teams. The Redmen had played tough in those match ups but tonight you were able to see it all come together in a winning effort.
Marquette was facing an opponent they are familiar with in the Sault Ste Marie Blue Devils. The Redmen were victorious against them last year in convincing fashion. Tonight’s game was deja vu. The offense was firing on all cylinders tonight. Quarterback Brendan Kaski was very efficient completing 64 percent of his passes. And every running back that touched the ball for Marquette was making things happen, especially Andrew Gale who had 250 yards on the ground. The offensive line was in total control of the line of scrimmage. You can not have asked for a better outing from the offense.
The coaching staff has to be just as happy with their defense. They were absolutely shutdown against Sault Ste Marie. The Blue Devils were unable to get much going offensively. The defensive line was in the backfield all night, whether it was against the run or pass. Defensive lineman Ryan Houle had three sacks on one drive. The only success Sault Ste Marie had was on one play that went for a 56 yard touchdown. Otherwise, the Redmen defense was flawless.
Marquette finally sees their hard work and great play pay off with a big victory tonight. Look for this to become a trend because that is three weeks in a row where they have played well. Hopefully they can start a winning streak and that could begin next week at the Escanaba Eskymos. You can hear all the coverage on Fox Sports Marquette. If you want to see the Redmen’s full schedule you can find that here.
