ModelTowner Friday Night- Gwinn ModelTowners (28) VS Hancock Bulldogs (12) on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 and 99.9 10/09/15

Gwinn, MI – October 9th, 2015 – It was a perfect night for football in Gwinn for ModelTowners homecoming against the Hancock Bulldogs. Both teams looked to take home the win, but the ModelTowners had some extra help thanks to all the fans at homecoming! Mike James and Jim Vereb brought you all of the action throughout the game on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 and 99.9!

IMG_0334The Gwinn ModelTowners were able to win the coin toss, and they kicked-off to the Hancock Bulldogs to start the game. On the first play of the game, the Bulldogs fumbled the ball on a pitch play, but they were able to recover it for a five-yard loss. The ModelTowners held the Bulldogs back on their first drive, despite some tense moments, and forced them to punt. After trading the ball back and forth, the ModelTowners made a strong drive toward the goal line, and Devin Dachs scored a touchdown on a long run to make the early score 6-0 in favor of Gwinn. After the two-point attempt was successful, the score was 8-0. The first quarter ended with no further scoring, but Gwinn was making a strong drive down the field toward their second touchdown of the game.

First Quarter Score:
Gwinn ModelTowners: 8
Hancock Bulldogs: 0

IMG_0333The Gwinn ModelTowners started the second quarter off in control of the ball and continuing their drive from the end of the first quarter. The Hancock Bulldogs took over on downs, however, and the ModelTowners looked to continue their strong defensive play. Despite some great offense, Gwinn was unable to score, and turned the ball over to the Bulldogs on their next drive. The ModelTowners held strong on defense, despite some penalties, to stop Hancock on their drive. Devin Dachs continued to play very well, with another running touchdown on a pitch play to the outside. After the two point conversion was good, the score was 16-0 with just over three minutes left in the first half of play. On the kickoff after the touchdown, Hancock fumbled on the return and Gwinn was able to recover the ball with excellent field position. The Bulldogs held strong on defense when they forced a fumble from Gwinn and were able to recover the ball, stopping the ModelTowner drive. The first half ended with no further scoring.

Second Quarter Score:
Gwinn ModelTowners: 16
Hancock Bulldogs: 0

IMG_0335The Gwinn ModelTowners started the second half of play by receiving the kickoff and looking to continue their success of the first half of play. Jalen Skinner made a running catch on the opening kickoff, but the slippery ball continued to be a problem, as there was a fumble on the play. Gwinn recovered the loose ball however, and they began to move toward the end zone. Devin Dachs capitalized on the drive by scoring another running touchdown to make the score 22-0 after missing the two-point conversion with just over five minutes left in the third quarter. On the Bulldogs next drive, they were able to score a touchdown and make the score 22-6 after failing to score the two-point conversion. The Hancock Bulldogs attempted an on-side kick off, but Jacob Potvin returned the squib kick all the way down to the Bulldog 29-yard line. Devin Dachs, on the next play, scored another touchdown on a huge run after taking Hancock by surprise on a quick run. The score was 28-6 after a missed two-point conversion attempt, and the third quarter ended with that score.

Third Quarter Score:
Gwinn ModelTowners: 28
Hancock Bulldogs: 6

The final quarter of action started with the Bulldogs in control of the ball and looking to try and even the score. They were able to score a touchdown on a 90+ yard run, but they missed the two point conversion, which made the score 28-12 with just over seven minutes left to play. The Gwinn ModelTowners looked to control the ball for the remainder of the game by sticking to their strong running game, not letting Hancock have a chance to make a comeback. The defense for both teams held strong, not allowing any more scoring before the end of the game.

Gwinn ModelTowners: 28
Hancock Bulldogs: 12
